Children’s Programs

  1. Running and Reading – Running and Reading is an after school program at Cedarbrae P.S. for students in Gr. 1-6. This program focussed on activities that promote physical activity and English literacy. This after school program on Tuesdays between 3:45 – 5:30 pm. Sorry, this program is currently full.   2. Run and Learn at Winston Churchill – Run and Learn is an after school program at Winston Churchill P.S. for students in Gr. 1-3. This program focussed on activities that promote physical activity and English literacy. Run and Learn happens weekly on Wednesdays from 3:30 – 5:30 pm. Register here.
  3. Mini Chefs at Sir Edgar Bauer – Mini Chefs is a student club facilitated by Better Beginnings at Sir Edgar Bauer C.E.S. for students in grades 1-3. In this club, participants learn about healthy eating and nutrition, while learning age-appropriate cooking skills. Mini Chefs meets weekly on Thursdays from 11:20 am – 12:30 pm.Click here to be added to our waiting list. When a spot opens up, we’ll call you. 
  4. Wee Wellness – We meet on Mondays from 3:45 pm – 5:00 pm at Cedarbrae Public School for children in grades JK to grade 1. Participants will meet after school in the gym and pickup from the program will be from door E. This program is designed to teach children about the importance of developing and maintaining healthy lifestyle habits through yoga, storytelling and activities focused on self-reflection.   5. Home Reading – The Home Reading Assistance Program was developed in partnership with the Special Education Resource Teachers at Cedarbrae P.S. This program is meant to supplement the Home Reading program that takes place in Cedarbrae P.S. On Wednesdays and Fridays (9:30-11:20am), Better Beginnings volunteers are assigned to a classroom and practice reading one-on-one with students in JK-Gr.4. Registration for this program is teacher-elected.
  6. Discover Music – This program happens at The Neighbourhood Hub on Thursdays from 4:30 pm – 5:30 pm. Participants in grade 7 – 9 will go through 6 weeks of learning to play the instruments and pass on their learning by teaching younger kids to play in the following weeks. Sorry, this program is currently full.   7. Tutoring – The Adventure4Change tutoring program runs out of The Neighbourhood Hub on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, and is open to students in grades 1 through 8. We welcome students to sign up to meet one-on-one with a university student tutor regarding a subject of the participant’s choosing. Click here to be added to our waiting list.   8. Bridge to Music – Bridges to Music is a program that offers low-cost violin lessons to elementary-school aged children. This program is run in partnership with Lakeshore South Communication Association, The House of Friendship, and the KW Symphony. Students receive violin lessons at the Lakeshore South Communication Association weekly on Mondays. Register through Lakeshore South Communication Association (formerly Sunnydale Community Centre).

Parent Programs

  1. Parents Night Out meet Monday evenings from 6:30 – 8:00pm at Cedarbrae Public School (enter through door E). Free program, no registration required. We meet Monday February 4th, Monday March 4th, and Monday April 1st. Children’s program available for school-aged children. Child care available for preschool aged children and infants. Please come join us for one, some, all, or any of these weeks!
  2. Coffee and Conversation – This group is for women in the Sunnydale neighbourhood and meets weekly on Mondays (10:00-11:30am) at the Sunnydale Community Centre. Weekly topics vary based on participant input. There is no registration for this group.
  3. English Class – Better Beginnings’ English class happens weekly on Wednesdays (1:00 pm – 3:00 pm) at The Neighbourhood Hub. This class is for moms in our community who need some extra help with language and literacy. There is no registration for this program.
  4. Parent Wellness Group – Parent Wellness groups meet weekly on Thursdays (9:30 – 11:00 am) at Cedarbrae P.S. This group rotates through weekly topics of wellness including creativity, physical wellness, parenting, and food and nutrition. This group is open to any parents or caregivers of Cedarbrae P.S. students. There is no registration for this program.
  5. Explore, Play, Learn – We meet at The Neighbourhood Hub and help preschoolers get ready for school through interactive play with parents.

Community Events

  1. March Break Camp and Family Event. Register children in SK to Grade 3 for four days of camp. Monday March 11th to Thursday March 14th 2018 1pm – 4pm. Church in the Woods – 209 Bearinger Rd Waterloo ON On Thursday March 14th, we will be having a family day. Parents and family members are invited to join us from 1pm – 3pm to participate in camp activities. Please confirm that you are able to attend. Attendance is $5 per child, max $25 per family
