Children’s Programs

  1. MakerKids – Maker Kids is an after school program at Cedarbrae P.S. for students in JK, SK and Gr. 1. This program is run in partnership with the Waterloo Public Library and focuses on creativity, problem solving, and practical hands-on projects. This after school program.  Mondays from 3:45 – 5 pm from Oct 15 – Dec 3.  Sorry, this program is currently full. Click here to be added to our waiting list. When a spot opens up, we’ll call you.
  2. Running and Reading – Running and Reading is an after school program at Cedarbrae P.S. for students in Gr. 1-6. This program focussed on activities that promote physical activity and English literacy. This after school program between 3:45 – 5:30 pm from Oct 2 – May. Sorry, this program is currently full.   3. Tutoring – The Adventure4Change tutoring program runs out of The Neighbourhood Hub on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and is open to students of all ages. We welcome students to sign up to meet one-on-one with a university student tutor regarding a subject of the participant’s choosing. Sorry, this program is currently full.   4. Run and Learn at Winston Churchill – Run and Learn is an after school program at Winston Churchill P.S. for students in Gr. 1-3. This program focussed on activities that promote physical activity and English literacy. Run and Learn happens weekly on Wednesdays.
  5. Mini Chefs at Sir Edgar Bauer – Mini Chefs is a student club facilitated by Better Beginnings at Sir Edgar Bauer C.E.S. for students in Gr. 1-4. In this club, participants learn about healthy eating and nutrition, while learning age-appropriate cooking skills. Mini Chefs meets weekly on Thursdays (11:30am-12:30pm). Sorry, this program is currently full. Click here to be added to our waiting list. When a spot opens up, we’ll call you.
  6. Home Reading – The Home Reading Assistance Program was developed in partnership with the Special Education Resource Teachers at Cedarbrae P.S. This program is meant to supplement the Home Reading program that takes place in Cedarbrae P.S. On Wednesdays and Fridays (9:30-11:20am), Better Beginnings volunteers are assigned to a classroom and practice reading one-on-one with students in JK-Gr.4. Registration for this program is teacher-elected.
  7. Bridge to Music – Bridges to Music is a program that offers low-cost violin lessons to elementary-school aged children. This program is run in partnership with The Sunnydale Community Centre, The House of Friendship, and the KW Symphony. Students receive violin lessons at the Sunnydale Community Centre weekly on Mondays.

Parent Programs

  1. Cedarbrae Parent Wellness meet on Thursdays from 9:30 am to 11:00am. Starting Thursday October 4th. This is a free, drop in program (No registration required). Meet other parents in your community. Enjoy group activities and conversation.
  2. Parents Night Out meet Wednesday evenings from 7:00-8:00pm at Cedarbrae Public School (enter through door E). Free program, no registration required. We start Wednesday November 7 and meet until Wednesday December 12. Children’s program available for school-aged children. Child care available for preschool aged children and infants. Please come join us for one, some, all, or any of these weeks!
  3. Coffee and Conversation – This group is for women in the Sunnydale neighbourhood and meets weekly on Mondays (10:00-11:30am) at the Sunnydale Community Centre. Weekly topics vary based on participant input. There is no registration for this group.
  4. English Class – Better Beginnings’ English class happens weekly on Wednesdays (1:00-3:00pm) at The Neighbourhood Hub. This class is for moms in our community who need some extra help with language and literacy. There is no registration for this program.

This group rotates through weekly topics of wellness including creativity, physical wellness, parenting, and food and nutrition. Community Events

  1. Sir Edgar Bauer’s Gingerbread House Decorating Party – December 11th @ 6:30 pm – 7:30 pm. Bring the whole family to decorate a gingerbread house, enjoy snacks, take pictures in the photo booth, and get creative with winter crafts. Cost is $10/family. Registration required.
