The focal point of music camp for kids, caregivers and volunteers is always the Thursday afternoon concert; the kids practice dances and songs all week and then get to share them with family, friends, neighbours and other important adults. As usual, this year Thursday was brimming with fun and enthusiasm, but we were also excited to welcome to the Federal Minister of Families, Children and Social Development Jean-Yves Duclos to speak about the increased funding to the Canada Child Benefit program, which seeks to improve the lives of our families, and many others. Joining him was the Honourable Bardish Chagger (MP for Waterloo) who has been a support for our community. We were glad to spend time with her and others, who came to meet our families. The concert was a big success, and kids and adults alike reported that afternoon as the highlight of their week at camp!

We were so grateful for Julia Dixon, who came in during music camp to teach the kids more about music, and specifically brought her violin for some lucky campers to try. Many of the kids had never had an opportunity to play a strings instrument before and were excited for the chance to hear how lovely it was, and to practice for themselves!

We had some thoughtful parents and volunteers who graciously donated their time to our music camp community day and helped with games, snacks, granola making, henna and face paint! We ended the week with a room full of tigers, dinosaurs, princesses and superheroes.
